Our Grounded Hemp Coffee is comprised of 10% USDA organic hemp protein powder (sourced via a fair trade initiative) and 90% USDA organic Arabica coffee. The word "hemp" is thrown around a lot from clothing, to bath and body products, to things you can eat/drink... but did you know hemp also has potential benefits when blended with coffee?

What is Hemp?

Hemp itself is a crop that's both sustainable and versatile, which is why you'll see it used across a number of different products like textiles/clothing, to different building materials. It's a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species, which is grown specifically for industrial use. (I'm sure most of us are familiar with that term.)

The plant is typically tall and skinny, reaching heights of up to 15 feet with thin, narrow leaves. The hemp plant is different from the marijuana plant, which is grown for its psychoactive properties. The two are not to be confused.

So what parts of the plant are used? The parts of the hemp plant that are used in products include the seeds, which are used for food and oil, and the fibers, which are used for textiles and building materials. The legality of hemp in the USA has been a topic of debate for many years (which isn't a surprise).

However! With the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp and hemp-derived products, become legal in a number of states.

Okay, So... What is Hemp Coffee?

Exactly what it sounds like! Hemp-infused coffee is coffee that's been blended with hemp powder, oil, or extract -- in our case, we blend hemp powder with ground Arabica coffee.

Hemp-infused coffee can help provide a boost of protein and healthy fats, but also has anti-inflammatory properties and can improve digestion. Some people find it helps them to stay calmer, focused and more mentally energized throughout the day.

Hemp-infused coffee is also an environmentally friendly choice - hemp is a sustainable crop, and because ours is USDA organic certified and sourced via fair trade, the beans are grown through responsible farming methods.

What Potential Benefits Does Hemp Have?

In addition to providing a rich, nutty flavor in coffeee, it's a superfood packed with nutrients. It's high in protein and contains all 9 essential amino acids, as well as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

There's a number of potential benefits from having hemp in food/bevvies, depending on how the food/bevvie is produced and the form of the hemp.

For example,

  • Protein: Rich source of protein, which can help to support muscle growth and repair
  • Healthy Fats: Good source of healthy fats, such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which can help to promote heart health and reduce inflammation in the body
  • Fiber: A good source of fiber, which can help to promote healthy digestion
  • GF & V: Gluten-free and vegan (our Grounded coffee is, as well)
  • Can potentially help to reduce anxiety and stress. AKA, keep you grounded. 🫠

Hemp powder is a great addition to coffee for its nutritional benefits, which is why we have it blended into our ground coffee.

Hemp is a rich source of protein, which can help to support muscle growth and repair. Not to mention it's a good source for healthy fats, such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which can help to promote heart health and reduce inflammation in the body.

It may also be a good source of fiber, which can help to promote healthy digestion. And it's gluten free and vegan, which makes it diet friendly for those who may have sensitivities, allergies, or prefer not to consume either.

In case you were curious, hemp not only offers nutritional benefits, but also offers environmental benefits. Hemp is a sustainable crop that requires less water and pesticides than many other crops, and it's a renewable resource that can be grown in a variety of climates. Boom.

When is the Best Time to Drink Hemp-Infused Coffee?

The best time to drink coffee with hemp powder really depends on you as an individual. From a "benefits" perspective, our Grounded coffee blend may be best consumer early morning or late morning -- essentially before diving into work for the day to support less anxiety, or before lunch for the same reason.

As with any coffee, we don't recommend consuming it in the afternoon. Even though it has relaxing qualities, there's still a high amount of caffeine which means your sleep may be affected depending on when you go to bed.

Different Ways to Incorporate Hemp in your Coffee

There's a number of different ways to incorporate hemp into your coffee routine to reap different benefits of it.

Obviously our favorite (and most beneficial in our opinion) is blending it with your coffee:

  • With the Grounds: Mix hemp powder into ground coffee before brewing (our blend already takes care of that for you!)
  • Hemp Milk: Use hemp milk (also a good substitute for those who are lactose intolerant or sensitive)
  • Hemp Oil: Drizzle hemp oil on top of coffee after brewing, or blend it right in/froth it with your milk.

Adding hemp powder, for example, can help increase the protein content of your morning life blood, which can help support muscle growth and repair -- even if you aren't working out heavily.

If you're looking to add more nutrition while helping to reduce stress and anxiety for a calmer morning, take a look at our Grounded coffee that's infused with hemp.

*Please note, none of this is medical advice and should not be viewed as such. While hemp is natural, it’s a fantastic idea to discuss any new supplements with your health care provider to make sure it’s OK for use.
